Hosted by the Beijing Social Sports Management Center, the Secretariat of the Beijing Sports Federation, the Shunyi District Bureau of Sports of Beijing,
and the Shunyi Culture and Tourism Group, the Shunyi Olympic Water Park organized this ice dragon boat race, the Beijing Dragon Boat Association,
and Beijing Shunlv Water Park Investment and
Development Co., Ltd. Leaders including Lu Hongze. Deputy Inspector of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Li Xiangying, Deputy District Mayor
of Shunyi District, Yuan Zhenzhou, Chairman of the Beijing Dragon Boat Association, and Luo Zhongyi, President of the International Ice Dragon Boat
Federation (IIDBF), attended the event.
Nearly 200 athletes from 12 dragon boat teams across the city competed in the 100-meter straight-track race and the 200-meter straight-track race on ice.
The race received coverage from many major Chinese media outlets and authoritative sports media, including CCTV-1 (Xinwen Lianbo/News Simulcast),
CCTV-13, the General Administration of Sport of China, China Sports Daily, People’s Network, Sina, Sohu, and Eastday.
A friendly match between the Beijing Sports System Team, the Shunyi District Team, and the Beijing Dragon Boat Association Team kicked off the race.
At the competition site, teams united to cheer each other on, “paddling” their ice dragon boats, racing neck and neck, and striving to be the first.
As Beijing’s first attempt at an ice dragon boat race, this event added a new highlight to Beijing’s winter national fitness campaign. Ice dragon boat
racing represents the development and innovation of traditional dragon boat racing, filling the gap in winter ice and snow sports and allowing dragon
boats to showcase speed and passion on ice.
Ice dragon boat racing endows traditional Chinese dragon boat racing with new connotations and is a significant innovation of the conventional
Chinese water-based dragon boat sport. Its emergence enrichs the content of Beijing’s winter ice and snow sports, ignites enthusiasm for winter
national fitness in northern cities, and opens up a new horizon for national fitness activities in northern winters.
As a key event of the 5th Beijing Citizens’ Happy Ice and Snow Season, the First Beijing Ice Dragon Boat Race will help build a new brand for Beijing’s
ice and snow events and push this year’s Happy Ice and Snow Season to a new climax.
